Strike Up the Band for Band Camp 2009
August 22, 2009 -- Marshfield
For those of you not in the know, the Marshfield High School Band has been hard at work for the past week, tuning up their instruments, practicing their steps, synchronizing their dance and pounding on their snare drums. Yes folks, its Band Camp, 2009!
New music director David Kaminski was really feeling the heat this past week, and I mean literally. With temperatures in the 90’s and our first real heat wave upon us, conditions could best be described as grueling. But they persevered as the band always does and at the tail end of the week, the Marshfield High School Marching Band was ready to put it all out there.
A record number of friends and family showed up on a hot Friday night to watch their favorite marching band do what they do best. The band performed three numbers, “Mercy, Mercy”, “What I like About You” and then showing their jazzy side with “Birdland”. It was hard to believe they’d only practiced for the week. Some of these students are incoming freshman, who’ve never experienced what its like to play AND march at the same time, not to mention, march backwards, sideways and in circles. They looked like seasoned pros.
Having this little preview under the lights on a Friday night is a great idea too. In past years, the performance was done on a Saturday afternoon, but starting last year, it was moved to the last Friday night of band camp. I don’t know about everyone else, but to this Rams fan, I could feel the excitement in the air under those Friday Night lights. Yes, we’re ready! Bring it on!
Go Rams!
